Understanding the Market and User Needs
Market Research: I began by conducting extensive research on the digital pathology market, analyzing competitors, emerging trends, and technological advancements. This helped in identifying key areas where the company could differentiate itself.
User Interviews: Engaging with pathologists, research scientists, and other stakeholders allowed me to understand their pain points, workflows, and latent user needs. These insights were vital in shaping the vision to be truly user-centric.
Defining Core Objectives:
User Experience: The vision emphasized creating an intuitive and efficient user experience, aiming to streamline workflows and reduce the cognitive load on pathologists.
Scalability and Flexibility: Ensuring that the software could adapt to different lab environments and scale with the needs of growing organizations was another critical objective.
Integration with AI: Recognizing the increasing role of AI in pathology, the vision included seamless integration of AI tools to assist in diagnostics, enhancing accuracy and efficiency.
Collaborating with Cross-Functional Teams:
Workshops and Brainstorming Sessions: I organized workshops with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to align everyone on the vision. These sessions fostered collaboration, allowing for the exchange of ideas and ensuring that the vision was feasible and innovative.
Prototyping and Feedback: Early prototypes were developed based on the vision, which were then tested and iterated upon with real users. This iterative process ensured that the vision remained grounded in practical needs and user feedback.
Articulating the North Star Vision:
Vision Statement: The North Star vision was articulated in a concise statement that encapsulated the long-term goals and aspirations of the product. It served as a constant reference point for decision-making throughout the product lifecycle.
Visual Framework: A visual framework was developed to communicate the vision clearly to all stakeholders, outlining the key components, goals, and how they interconnect.
Implementing and Iterating:
Roadmap Development: The vision was broken down into actionable steps, with a clear roadmap that outlined the phases of development, key milestones, and success metrics.
Continuous Feedback Loop: A feedback loop was established to continuously gather insights from users and stakeholders, allowing for ongoing refinement of the vision as the product evolved.
System Usability Scale
We employed the System Usability Scale (SUS) to gather user feedback for Concentriq for Research. The SUS allowed us to measure user satisfaction and identify areas for improvement through a standardized metric, and the resulting improvements contributed to a 33% increase in daily active users.
We applied the same rigor to Concentriq Dx across multiple releases, contributing to a successful FDA 510(k) clearance while improving System Usability Scale scores from 64.1 to 77 and reducing case review time from approximately 60 minutes to 37 minutes.
